I mean, what would I say? Would they even care? What if I opened my mouth and nothing came out?
But when I got there, Mrs. Fuller was so gracious and welcoming that my fear began to subside, although my hands were still sweating so much that I had to wipe them on the front of my jeans. I stood behind the podium with my trusty notebook filled with talking points about my writing process and, the strange thing was that as I went through them, the students were actually interested…and even asking questions.
Then before I knew it, the forty-five minute class had zoomed by and I found that I could have gone on about writing.
I mean, I love it! I love to write, I love to talk about writing, I love to read about writing, I love to hear about other people’s writing. I simply love it!
Today was so much fun and I hope I inspired some young writer to chase after their dream, or to go home and finish that manuscript, or even better, to start on that story that’s been buzzing around in their head for a while.
Now that the day is complete, if I could emphasize one thing I said today, it would be that to be a writer, all you have to do is write. So get out there and do it!
